The idea of privacy did not exist in the ashram and the Guru was the great grandfather figure guiding aspirants. Why does TY offer their online courses for free? The eternal science of Yoga has survived through the ages as a central element of culture. Gurus taught students the scientific ways of living like Yogis from birth to death and beyond. Yoga was never something sold for profit but a way of living taught to benefit all. Traditional Yoga is simply continuing this tradition of teaching authentic ways of living like a Yogi in a material world where Yoga has become commercialized and fragmented with mostly asana-oriented programs.
-
Does filling the online enrollment form give me access to a particular course? No. All applicants must fill an ‘Additional Details Form’ and have an interactive audio call via WhatsApp with a TY volunteer who will assess the aspirant’s eligibility based on our selection criteria. The ‘Additional Details Form’ should be filled with thoughtful and detailed responses while your purpose for joining this course should align with information provided in the "Course Details" and "Code of Conduct". Please ensure you are familiar with both documents before the interaction call.
-
How will I know if I am selected for a course?TY will let you know if you have been selected via WhatsApp. You will be given provisional access to the online portal for a specific period of time after you have successfully completed the ‘Additional Details Form’ correctly and/or undergone the interaction call. Both are prerequisites along with student performance based on defined parameters (explained below) for continued access to the course.
-
Why is the selection process tough? The courses follow the ethos of traditional ashrams where only students who are willing to surrender to the Guru and leave their intellectual and cultural baggage aside are accepted. The selection process is designed to ensure that only yoga aspirants who are ready to go on such a transformative journey are given access to this online ashram.
-
What is a Gratitude Message/ Anumodana?Anumodana is the expression of gratitude to the Guru for the teachings and in extension learning how to express gratitude for everything & everyone that supports our survival. It is an incredibly powerful tool to dramatically shift our consciousness so that we learn to appreciate all that surrounds us, leading to deep healing. If you are selected, you will be regularly writing Gratitude Messages (GMs) reflecting on the class teachings to cultivate the power of positivity and develop compassion for all beings i.e. Avalokiteshvara.
-
What is the selection criteria? The criteria for selection is NOT based on payment. ONLY students who exhibit qualities such as gratitude, devotion, humility, positivity, genuine interest, and a burning desire to learn Yoga in its authentic form straight from the Himalayas are considered.
-
What if I am not seeking a certificate? The course is designed for anyone looking for complete transformation, liberation, and purification of the body, mind, and soul. Anyone in any age group irrespective of gender, ethnicity, religion, physical/ mental inability, and other factors can be on the course for complete health as long as they comply with the Code of Discipline.
-
How many courses does TY offer per year?TY Teacher Training Courses run continuously throughout the year with 3 courses on an average per year.
-
Who are mentors?Mentors are Traditional Yoga senior students providing selfless service out of pure volition to guide new aspirants as they navigate the course. All students are assigned a mentor. A mentor is like a family member you must be fully transparent with, so that he/she can guide you properly. You must actively engage in communication with the mentor daily and acknowledge all messages by them.
-
How many classes and contact hours per week?Live classes are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday starting at 5 AM IST. A recorded version will be made available throughout the course period. You are encouraged to watch the classes LIVE, if you have a lifestyle that accommodates it, as students are being trained to tune into the present moment and to gain effective neural coupling with Guruji. On alternative days (i.e. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays) practice sessions may be uploaded to the course library for you to practice. You are expected to commit 3-4 hours daily for the course.
-
Are the live classes interactive? No, the classes are not interactive. Your main contact point at Traditional Yoga will be a mentor who will be assigned to you.
-
If I want to continue, can I stay beyond the present course? The tradition of going to a Guru is a lifelong journey as a Guru guides you on all aspects of life. As long as you are willing to follow the Code of Discipline and keep growing on the path without resistance, you have the option of becoming a lifelong student of the Guru.
-
How do I access course material if I am selected? If you are selected you can access the course material on your dashboard on the TY website by logging in.
-
Why such a big time commitment? The teachings are in the style of Shurtha Sampradaya i.e. as heard from the Guru. You are supposed to learn organically by tuning into the voice of the Guru, daily. This is because training to listen is a powerful but difficult technique to master to reprogram your brain for enormous benefits such as parallel processing, right brain programming, effective absorption of knowledge and more.
-
Do I have to pay for the next course if I continue? No. Every single course is free. However, your progress is monitored and if you are not progressing as expected of an old student on the path, you will be removed for displaying unwholesome chittas.
-
Do mentors or volunteers get extra benefits?Mentors/ Volunteers do not get extra benefits as all students are treated equally without distinction. All students practice something called Nishkama Karma Yoga, which means to work hard without expectations. The opportunity to serve in the capacity of a mentor or more carries the invaluable benefit of allowing an aspirant to become more selfless as one serves others on the path of enlightenment.
